About UsWhat We Do at FamilyLifeAs I explained elsewhere, when I originally called to inquire about joining staff, I was specifically asking about Information Services management and was informed that no such positions were open. However, I was told that I could join staff as a missionary and asked if I'd like to find out more. Over the first few months of 2003, the Lord made it clear that He was calling us to raise support, move our family to Little Rock, Arkansas and join the staff of FamilyLife. Two years later, we moved from our home in the Oklahoma City area to Little Rock. But during that two years of raising our initial support, I gave up on the idea of working in Information Services. When you raise support for FamilyLife, you don't know what you'll be doing once you arrive in Little Rock. I figured I'd help out with conferences or something similar. But God had other plans. As we prepared to move, we made a trip to the ministry in March of 2005 for interviews to determine where I would be working in the ministry. What was amazing was that just before that, all four managers in the Information Services department left for different reasons. As I arrived, it was all but a forgone conclusion that I'd be working in IS leadership. I was awestruck as I realized that God had called me to call for an IS management job, it was just that God needed me to call 3 years in advance so I'd have time to raise support! I initially was placed as Systems Manager and about three months later was asked to serve as the Director of Information Technology, which was simply astounding to us. I remember once my placement became clear an overwhelming sense that this was what God had created me to do. What a rare privilege! But since that time, God has raised up an even greater opportunity. In late November 2006, I was called to serve as Vice President of Support Services, with responsibility for Information Services, the 800-FL-TODAY Call Center and our Constituent Correspondence group. I now have the incredible privilege of serving on the executive leadership team with an amazing group of men and women including Dennis Rainey, Barbara Rainey and Bob Lepine. Karaña has been a homemaker since our first child was born in 1990 and has been home schooling our children since 1995. She is now using her organizational abilities to serve on the leadership team for the FamilyLife wives, including responsibility for organizing the child care committee. |
